Outreach and Missions

First Presbyterian Church continues a long tradition of hands-on engagement in our community, offering many opportunities for people of all ages to carry Christ’s love to those in need.

Some of these include mentoring Beardsley School students, funding & building Habitat homes, aiding Church Community Services, sponsoring area High School Peacemakers, Walking Against Hunger for Church World Service, an annual multi-cause Gift Fair, and Emergency Assistance for needy residents.

Coordinated by our Serving Commission, these activities unfold from our mission statement:

“… the [F.P.C.] Serving Commission shall discern and foster activities and efforts that reach beyond our walls with our time, energy and resources - to assist and comfort our human family in need: locally, domestically, and internationally.”

Harkin Family Home Finish

“Home for the Holidays” conjures up images of warm family gatherings, enjoying good food and fellowship in a safe and inviting home.  But that image is only a dream for the families who come to Habitat in search of a place to call home.

Last year the Harkins family was accepted into our program.  The family has already completed over 300 hours of sweat equity by building homes with other families and by successfully completing our many homeownership training classes.  The family has spent far too many years in a very old, substandard mobile home and now it’s their turn to build a quality, affordable home of their own.  Their new Habitat home will be their forever home.

Our goal is to start construction in October and finish the house in December, just in time for the Harkins to be in their new home for the holidays!  Your contribution will help the Harkins family break the cycle of poverty housing.
