Daily Devotion from Pastor Sally – March 25, 2020

Dear Friends,

The spring is definitely on its way. My gardens have green sprouts throughout which is a bit of an adventure for me this year in my new home. I think I have spied some daffodils coming up which gives me great joy. I enjoy the spring blooms in particular.

I believe the created world must give God great joy. We read in the first chapter of Genesis, that God repeatedly announced as he looked at the creation that “It was good.” Our God is all about creating and giving life.

This Sunday, in worship, we’re going to sing one of my favorite hymns. It begins, “Morning Has Broken like the first morning; blackbird has spoken like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them springing fresh from the Word!” The whole song is a celebration of morning, which is a daily repetition of the first day of creation. “Morning” gives us the assurance that God is still creating new life.

In these days I try to take in the natural world around me. I attempt to look beyond the scary news reports and see the buds on the trees and sprouts in my garden. I listen for the songs of the birds and the chatter of the squirrels as they taunt my puppy. I smell the damp earth in my back yard trying to grow new grass. These are the signs of new life. It all sings of the promise of God to keep recreating our world, and to keep recreating you and me.

Peace,

Sally

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

Isaiah 58:8
