Pastor Sally’s Devotional 5/27

| May 27, 2020

Dear Friends,

Well, we hit a mile marker today I have been dreading for at least a week.  We passed 100,000 coronavirus deaths in the United States.  It’s a big number which represents a lot of people who had meaningful lives and who were loved by spouses, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Who knows how many loved ones have been left in sadness to mourn.

I remember when we passed 30,000 deaths, someone told me that was 10 times the number of people who died because of 9/11.  Then in late April we passed the number of deaths in the Vietnam war 58,220.  Now we reach another important number.  I begin to worry that these mile markers will just become numbers to me.  Coronavirus deaths begin to all run together and seem almost “normal.”  That just can’t be.  I have to pause and remind myself that these deaths are to be marked and these American neighbors and friends are to be mourned.  This should not be happening.

Here’s a link to a song setting of the 23rd psalm.  May it bring you peace.

Grace and peace,

Pr. Sally
