Pastor Sally’s Devotional 5/30

| May 30, 2020

Dear friends,

I love this blessing:

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you,
wherever He may send you.
May He guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May He bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders He has shown you.
May He bring you home rejoicing
once again into our doors.

I feel like this week has been a stormy one for us in our nation.  We have passed the marking of 100,000 deaths by the coronavirus.  There are several political decisions, with Hong Kong/ Chinese relationships and a proposed withdrawal from the WHO, that seem to shake the ground beneath our feet.  Most tragic has been the death of George Floyd and the protests which have turned violent, leading to a whole range of emotions from outrage to fear.  We seem to be living in the midst of storms this week with waters rising and threatening to overwhelm us.

The blessing above asks for the peace of Christ to go with us in such storms and promises God’s protection and guidance in times of wilderness wandering.  I am relying on God’s guidance and protection in these days and seeking Christ’s peace when I am tempted to give in to anger. I hang on the promise that God will bring us home rejoicing at the wonders of his love and his marvelous work among us.  He will bring us home through the doors of the House of the Lord.

Let us pray for our nation today.

Let us pray for those who feel afraid in their homes.

Let us pray for those who feel afraid on the street.

Let us pray for those who feel afraid at their place of work or out in the community.

Let us pray for those who feel afraid in their own skin.

Let us pray for Christ’ peace to go with us in this wilderness time.

Peace be with you,

Pr. Sally
