Pastor Sally’s Devotional 5/4

Dear Friends,

In the third chapter of First Corinthians Paul addresses some division in the Corinthian church.  Apparently the Christians in that church were unreasonably loyal to the particular apostle who helped them find faith in Jesus.  So some of them thought they belonged to Paul and others to an apostle called Apollos.  Paul explained that both he and Apollos had played a part in nurturing the faith of the Corinthians.  They were both “co-workers” of God.

I have always liked that term “co-worker.”  Paul often sends greetings at the end of his letters to his “co-workers” in the Lord.  He had a whole bunch of them!  I like the word “co-worker” because it reminds us that we are not alone when we do things for God.  There are a bunch of people who are working along side us whether they are physically near or not.

I find myself thinking about “co-workers” today because we had some trouble with our worship services yesterday and the three of us trying to pull it all together yesterday morning were pretty discouraged at the end of the morning.  But we three had pulled our spirits up by this afternoon and happily worked away together to find new solutions.  I am so grateful for Andy McCaskey and Kelsey Seddon’s resilience.  They are great co-workers in the Lord.  I also have to mention the many people who responded yesterday to my “apology” email after the services that did not go so well.  I am grateful for the co-workers in the Lord who take it upon themselves to be angels of encouragement.

There is no question in my mind but what we thrive as a congregation when we are appreciative and hopeful and encouraging of one another.  Look for someone to encourage today!  You will feel better and so will they!

Thanks you for your faithfulness… all of you!

Pr. Sally
