Pastor Sally’s Devotional 5/5

| May 8, 2020

Dear Friends,

I find I have done a lot of sighing today.  Some days are like that.  There was a lot to do today and most of it took longer than anticipated.  One in my family was having a hard day and it weighed on my soul.  So this scripture makes sense to me today.

Give ear to my words, O Lord; give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I pray. O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch. Psalm 5:1-3

There are lots of great movies and musicals that tout the hopes of tomorrow.  I think about Scarlet O’Hara in Gone with the Wind who loved to say, “After all, tomorrow is another day.”  Then there is the infinitely hopeful song from the musical Annie:  “Tomorrow, tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow.  You’re only a day away.”

Without wanting to only appeal to pop culture, I am reminded that God did an amazing thing in three days about 2000 years ago.  When all hope was lost, God gave a new beginning in three days with the resurrection in Jesus.  I try to remember on the days when life is a little bleak, to just give it three days and see how things are then.

Peace,

Pr. Sally
