From the Pastor's Pen

Pastor Sally’s Devotional 5/9

| May 9, 2020

Dear Friends,

I came across this meditation today.  I thought I’d share it with you.

I am not here to pass judgement
or point the finger at anyone.
My name was written in the sand
as one who is forgiven.
Strengthened with hope, impervious to shame,
I will walk freely like the freshness
of the dry lands after rain.

Let light spill out of heaven
through my life,
dispelling mediocrity and silent blame.
Too many people, guilt-stricken, wounded,
walk in regret,
feeling bad about failing,
apologise even for breathing.

Raw belief, a passion for others
grows in me,
encircling each moment
with instinctive prayer.
I will carry the freshness
of the dry lands after rain.
Compassion lives in me again.

                                Anne Raine

I like the boldness of the writing.  I like the way she describes herself as “one forgiven.” And I like the way that self-understanding as being “one forgiven” allows her to dismiss any suggestion that she need tip toe through life apologizing for her existence. The truth is we all make mistakes.  Some are minor.  Some are large enough to haunt us for months or even years.  While there is a value in making recompense for one’s mistakes, having done so, we need to live our lives with passion for the gift of life given to us.

Forgiveness is freedom.  Forgiveness unshackles us from our past and allows us to begin again.  Forgive yourself today and embrace the love of God.  Forgive someone else today… and embrace the love of God.

Peace,

Pr. Sally
