Pastor Sally’s Devotional 7/8

| July 9, 2020

Dear Friends,

I met with our staff this morning on zoom.  It was so good to see them.  We talked about their work and the recent session decisions, and I was delighted by their response.  They were energized and ready to pitch in.  It is a really good group of people who serve our church, and I’m glad we all like to work together.  It reminded me of the beginning of psalm 133.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

                                                Psalm 133: 1

The psalm goes on to talk about some distinctively ancient customs that are meant to be metaphors for what good and pleasant look like.  These metaphors sound really odd to our ears.  Maybe we need some new metaphors.

Living together in unity is  the pleasure of a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh from the oven.

Living together in unity is children splashing together under the fountains on a hot day.

Living together in unity is the sharing of communion even in our own homes around our city.

Living together in unity really is everything it is cracked up to be.  What can you do today to build unity in our church, in our community and in our world?

Peace,

Pr. Sally
