Joy to the World!
Experience the Joy of Christmas with us!
Christmas Joy is found in the special times we share with the people we love. At First Presbyterian Church we invite you be part of our church family in this special season. Share the love and laughter. Make new friends. Walk with us as we journey in joy to Bethlehem to see what God has done to come near and to make us part of his family.
Sunday with Santa is Pure Kid Fun!
We can’t wait for “Sunday with Santa,” a new event especially designed for young people. Santa is, of course, the main event. He’s waiting to visit with your children while our photographer snaps a wonderful free keepsake photo that will be emailed directly to you so you can print it yourself or use it in your Christmas cards. Other highlights of the event include: Christmas tree ornament making, Cookie decorating (an eating!), story telling by Mrs. Claus and a chance to view several beautiful nativity scene. Here comes Santa Claus! Ho! Ho! Ho!
Christmas Eve
Nothing is quite like Christmas Eve. Join us for worship on this Holy Night for either of two special services. Or come to both! Everyone is welcome on this night of wonders.
6:00 PM Family Service
The family service will meet in our beautiful Journey Café. Families and friends can sit around tables and enjoy a cup of coffee or cocoa as we celebrate Christ’ birth with our great Worship Band. (Expect both traditional carols and contemporary Christmas songs!) We will hear the story of Christ’ birth anew, hear a special Christmas message and give thanks with Christmas Communion and candle lighting during the singing of Silent Night. Welcome Jesus this Christmas with joy!
9:00 PM Traditional Service
The 9:00 PM service has an almost mystical quality about it as we welcome the Christ child in our beautiful sanctuary. Our classic Christmas Eve service is set with traditional carols, the scripture readings that tell of the birth of the Christ child, a special Christmas Eve message, Christmas Communion and candle lighting during the singing of Silent Night. Come welcome the Lord in beauty and in peace on Christmas Eve with us.
Christmas cheer at 9:00 and 11:00 each week
We offer worship in two styles in two different settings each Sunday. Our Traditional service (9:00 AM) is classic with hymns, a wonderful pipe organ and fabulous choir! Our new Journey Café Worship (11:00 AM) has a great worship band, multimedia presentation, and special opportunities for children in a café setting.
Our two worship services have a special joy during the Advent and Christmas seasons. We like to deck our halls! Look for an enormous Christmas tree decked with white lights and chrismons at the entrance of the Sanctuary and greens surrounding the worship space. Likewise the Journey Cafe is decorated with glistening trees, twinkling wreaths and icicle lights strung through the rafters! Sweet, familiar songs and carols are sung at both services and the Advent Candles remind us we are getting closer to Christmas each week.
Join us for worship each Sunday of Advent:
9:00 AM Traditional Worship
11:00 AM Contemporary Coffee House Worship
Advent Series: Filling your Stocking Advent…ually (Advent messages)
We are all about filling the stockings of our loved ones this time of year. Our brightly colored socks hung by the chimney with care will no doubt be filled with sweet treats and trinkets intended to spark a smile on Christmas morning. But on the four Sundays of Advent leading up to Christmas, we are looking to fill our faith stockings with gifts of lasting joy. As we wait for the Celebration of God’s greatest gift at Christmas, Jesus, let’s remember his birth changes everything.
Nov. 30 “Filling Your Stocking Advent… ually with Light”
Dec. 7 “Filling Your Stocking Advent… ually with Peace”
Dec. 14 “Filling Your Stocking Advent… ually with Hope”
Dec. 18 “Filling Your Stocking Advent… ually with God”
What is Advent?
Advent is a time to get ready for Christmas. The word Advent means, “the arrival of an important person, event or thing.” During Advent we are getting ready for the arrival of Jesus at Christmas. We do lots of things to get ready. We decorate the church with greens and the color blue. (We add red and gold as we approach Christmas) The blue reminds us of the dark blue sky in which the star of Bethlehem was seen. It is also a royal color reminding us that Jesus is our King. Lastly Blue is the color of hope! The messages and music you will hear in worship are full of hope during Advent. Advent begins November 30 and ends when we reach Christmas Eve!
